RAIL SERVICE DISRUPTION

Download a full list of impacted services here. No trains running South from Ayr.
If your normal train is not listed, it means that the service will run as normal.

I have not been sent any information regarding Barrhill Station, but I have been informed that a taxi sits up at the station at the times a train should be running, available for passengers to use.

South Ayrshire Council has imposed an exclusion zone at Ayr station, which will have an impact on our services. This is because the former hotel building next to the station has been deemed unsafe. The hotel building isn’t owned or operated by ScotRail.

This exclusion zone means services via Ayr will be disrupted for the foreseeable future.

Service alterations

The following service alterations will apply from Monday, 10 September until further notice:

  • Services between Ayr and Glasgow Central will have reduced capacity because of the restrictions that have been applied by the council, as the platforms at Ayr station can only accommodate four-carriage trains. In order to provide the best possible service to customers along the route, a number of trains throughout the day will start and terminate at Prestwick Town. A replacement bus service will run between Ayr and Prestwick Town to connect with these services.
  • Services between Kilmarnock and Ayr will return to normal Monday to Saturday, with some exceptions.
  • Services between Paisley Gilmour Street and Glasgow Central will return to normal. By starting/terminating some trains at Prestwick Town, we are able to operate longer trains on this route again. This means that we can restore capacity to previous levels.
  • There will be no services between Ayr and Girvan / Stranraer. Buses are in place to take customers between Ayr and Girvan / Stranraer.

How can I keep up to date with what’s happening?

Please check @ScotRail on Twitter, the live departure information on our website, or download our app before starting your journey to check which services are operating.

20mph Speed Limits in Villages in South Ayrshire.

Following the public meeting held on 16th November 2017, when a consultation was held to confirm that the residents of Barrhill wanted a 20mph speed limit to be introduced in the area, the proposed design for these measures has now been completed.

This meeting will again be addressed by Kevin Braidwood, Operations' Manager of Ayrshire Roads Alliance, when the design on how the lowered speed limit might be effectively implemented, given the specific local road structure and pattern of usage, will be put to residents for consultation.

This will be the public's last opportunity to give their views on the design and residents are therefore urged to attend.

Please come along to this Open Meeting on Wednesday 26th September at 7pm when this matter will be discussed, and let us know your views.

DOG FOULING AND USE OF POOP BAGS

The Community Council would like to remind dog owners that "poop" bags are available free of charge from the village shop.
Please be considerate to other members of the community and clean up after your dogs misdeeds.

The use of "poop" bags has been successful in helping to keep the village clean but some people are still being inconsiderate in having very kindly bagged their dogs poop they have then just hung the bag in a nearby bush or tree. Being a generous soul I would like to think that they were put there with the intention of collecting them on the return journey of their walk rather than a deliberate act. Please dispose of "poop" bags in a hygienic and environmentaly friendly way.

PUBLIC INVITED TO LEARN MORE ABOUT NEW
PROPOSALS FOR STRANOCH WIND FARM

Local residents are being given the opportunity to find out more about new plans for a wind farm in Dumfries and Galloway.

EDFy was awarded planning consent for a 24 turbine wind farm on the site in 2016, but is now reviewing the project in order to make the wind farm more efficient.

Following a review of the project the company has considered various options for the site and is now proposing a reduction in the number of turbines and incorporating a range of turbine heights from 140 metres to 175 metres to blade tip.

To bring residents and local stakeholders up to date with the proposal, drop-in exhibition events will be held on:

Saturday 28th April at Barrhill Primary School (10.00am – 1.00pm).

Members of the wind farm development team will be present at both events to answer questions on the plans. The information provided will include visual simulations to help residents understand what the wind farm will look like from various locations.
