It seems strange that the Sunday times have not changed and the full number of trains still run.

In a hope of improving the litter problem the CC has purchased litter pickers, gloves and bags which are available to anyone who is motivated enough to do some litter picking.

DOG FOULING AND USE OF POOP BAGS

The Community Council would like to remind dog owners that "poop" bags are available free of charge from the village shop.
Please be considerate to other members of the community and clean up after your dogs misdeeds.

The use of "poop" bags has been successful in helping to keep the village clean but some people are still being inconsiderate in having very kindly bagged their dogs poop they have then just hung the bag in a nearby bush or tree. Being a generous soul I would like to think that they were put there with the intention of collecting them on the return journey of their walk rather than a deliberate act. Please dispose of "poop" bags in a hygienic and environmentaly friendly way.

BARRHILL NEWS July 2020

A77 COMBINED RESURFACING PROGRAMME

As part of Transport Scotland's strategic trunk road management programme, Scotland TranServ is resurfacing 0.6km of the A77 between Kilantringan Burn and Auchencrosh, south of Ballantrae.

In order to deliver the resurfacing of 0.6km of the A77 adjacent to Kilantringan Farm, Scotland TranServ will implement a weekend closure of A77 in this area. Diversion via the A714 through Barrhill.

Drivers are advised to allow an additional 40 minutes journey time in order to negotiate the weekend diversion route. Special arrangements will be in place for emergency service vehicles, however no additional measures will be made for windfarm traffic or wideloads.

The closure will be in place between 8pm on Friday 24th until 6am on Monday 27th July.

Following this, a further 200m surface patching scheme will be carried out at the Stranraer North Gateway, under daytime convoy.

Working with the local community, Scotland TranServ identified the need to carry out 200m of surface patching in this section of the trunk road. The project at the North Gateway into Stranraer will be carried out under daytime convoy between 8am and 4pm each day between Monday 27th and Wednesday 29th of July.

Small Grants 2019/20 Details

The Community Council has funds available for small grants.
If you have ideas that need funding then please apply. See the details in the link below.
Dates and details for Small Grants applications now available.
The application form (in word format) is available here.

Coronavirus Support Funding

Carrick Futures has set aside £5000 to support the Barrhill community in the current lockdown situation. The application form and instructions for a grant are on the Carrick Futures website. It does require you to be part of a constituted group or sponsored by one (eg the Community Council). The Community Council also has the small grant scheme which can also be used for some community resilience schemes.

Carrrick Futures has already provided £3000 support to Ayrshire Cancer Support for the transport of patients from the South Carrick area to hospital appointments.

Station Car Park Update

This has been taken from the latest SWSCRP Newsletter:

The lack of car parking space has been deterring the local and outlying population from using the train. With the current 'climate emergency' we must encourage people to use sustainable travel by train in order to reduce our carbon footprint. Car parking at Barrhill will encourage more people to use the train knowing they can safely leave their car at the station. We have some conditions to satisfy the funding secured last week which will be done in the lockdown as we want to be in a position to - hopefully - deliver this in the summer.

station map
The above layout shows Barrhill Station with the proposed car parking spaces running along the side of the road. We need to clear the foliage, cut into - and shore up - the embankment to create enough space. We will also be installing CCTV to cover the parking area.

The weekly scheduled roadworks for SW Scotland is available in Excel spreadsheet format here.

Note these are the TRANSERVE maintained roads so does not include the A714.
I can only upload these when they are sent to me so occasionally a week goes missing.

Litter

Litter along the roadsides is an ongoing problem in and around the village. The Community Council has been negotiating with South Ayrshire Council about litter signs for almost 2 years now with still no end product.

In a hope of improving the litter problem the CC has purchased litter pickers, gloves and bags which are available to anyone who is motivated enough to do some litter picking.

If you need any of these items contact either:

Ann Robertson on 07766 740179 or Andrew Clegg on 01465 821456

and we will get the supplies needed to you.

Church Services

BARRHILL NEWS June 2020

ruralict

Skips and Brown Bins

SAC have resumed collecting all bins.

SAC has notified us that they will not be providing skips until further notice.

As recycling centres are reopening I have requested SAC provide us with a date for the restart of skips but with no reply as yet.

The shedule for bin collections for the year 2020/21 is now available.
It can be found on the dates menu or by clicking here.

MEMORIAL HALL CLOSURE

In accordance with government recommended instructions to avoid public gatherings the Barrhill Development Trust has closed the Memorial Hall as of the 17th March until further notice.

They know that this will inconvenience some people but the health and safety of residents is of the utmost importance.

During this difficult period, there is a list of volunteers willing to help out fellow visitors who are self isolating, vulnerable or unable to carry out essential tasks. If you need help with shopping, collecting prescriptions etc these volunteers are willing to help. The list should have been delivered to you by the postie. If you do not have the list then you can email me. (r.a.clegg@btinternet.com).

For Barrhill there is only one change in that the 21:37 to Kilmarnock arrives one minute later at 23:02.

Skip

A skip will be in the village from Friday 31st January to Monday 3rd February.

In August someone put 19 used tyres and 2 cans of oil in the skip. The skip is to be used for domestic waste only.
South Ayrshire Council has notified us that if this is repeated they will not provide further skips.

Dates for 2020 can be found here.

Note that the skip is to be situated behind the fence not on the gravelled area in front of it.
